WSU’s Fundraising Tops $6 Million Mark

Worcester State University President Barry M. Maloney yesterday announced to alumni that the University’s fundraising has surpassed the $6 million dollar mark in the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2013. The $6.12 million total raised from more 3,500 contributors is more than double the previous year’s.

“We are a university on the move,” says Maloney. “Our graduation rate and retention rates are up, we are hiring more faculty and building a new residence hall and wellness center. Worcester State provided our alumni the foundation that led to their financial success, and they are giving back generously. Along with state legislators and the Governor, they are committing the resources we need to ensure that today’s WSU students succeed.”

In his remarks to donors at Mechanic’s Hall in Worcester yesterday, Maloney said, “Students are benefitting from the dollars you have committed. With scholarship support, more students are able to fulfill their dreams – and they have you to thank.”

The dollar amount for donor contributions surpasses any previous annual total for Worcester State.

“Donors continue to ramp up their giving for many critical campus initiatives, including faculty and student research, student scholarships and internships,” says Maloney. “They also help the campus meet emerging needs, such as additional classroom space.”

This past year’s comprehensive fundraising total includes support from individuals and businesses in the community, as well as private foundations and state and federal grants. Worcester State University’s endowment stands at a healthy $20 million dollars, a fund which was virtually nonexistent 16 years ago.
